Rafale maker ties up with Tata to make jet's fuselage in India

In a significant push for defence self-reliance, Dassault Aviation and Tata Advanced Systems have signed a strategic partnership to co-produce fuselage sections for the Rafale fighter jets in India. This marks the first time that any part of the Rafale airframe will be manufactured outside France.

The agreement includes four Production Transfer Agreements aimed at setting up a dedicated assembly line capable of delivering up to two complete fuselages per month once fully operational. The first units are expected to roll out by the financial year 2028.

This initiative is a major milestone under the 'Make in India' campaign and underscores growing Indo-French cooperation in the defence sector. The advanced production infrastructure will not only support India's military requirements but also position the country as a credible player in global aerospace manufacturing.

Experts believe the move could attract further high-tech defence manufacturing partnerships, strengthen India's strategic capabilities, and create skilled jobs in the aerospace sector.
